Liz Gately - Partner

Liz started her New York-based scouting business for international publishers in 2010, after stints working for book scout Barbara Tolley, literary agent Kathleen Anderson, director & producer Lee Daniels, and the Gersh Agency. She and her team scout for sixteen publishing companies around the world including HarperCollins UK, Rowohlt in Germany, and Planeta Brazil.

In 2017 she joined forces with Claire Lundberg to scout for film and tv, and she runs our New York office. She has been a guest speaker about scouting at the Columbia Publishing Course, the NYU Publishing Masters program, the Taipei Rights Workshop, and Book Summit Toronto. She’s particularly fond of non-fiction, and her favorite book to film adaptation is THE GODFATHER.

Cathrin Wirtz - Senior Scout

Born and raised in Germany (later getting her MA in German and English literature and film/media theory, and into book publishing), Cathrin has been living in New York for almost two decades, and working with Liz Gately as a Literary Scout since 2011, where she's focusing on YA and upmarket/literary fiction (always looking for dysfunctional family/relationship novels that will ideally make her tear up, and perhaps the ocean is involved, too). As of 2020, she’s been in charge of covering the German language market for CTL. Scouting from Brooklyn, Germany, Maine and Iceland, you’ll find her at a local movie theatre at least once a week.

Among her favourite adaptations: The English Patient (she’s seen it more times than she can count), The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and The Last Picture Show.

Celeste Crawford - Senior Scout

Celeste Crawford - Senior Scout

Celeste has worked in book-to-film scouting in New York since 2017, and joined CTL in 2022. She has facilitated deals for HBO, Hulu, and more, and oversees the weekly publishing industry report geared toward film/TV clients. She enjoys literary coming-of-age, thrillers with unusual characters, books with a “dark academia” flavor, complicated romances, and genre-blending stories that feel totally singular. Some of her favorite adaptations are HIGH FIDELTY (movie and show!), EILEEN, and MY BRILLIANT FRIEND.

Adaptations she can’t wait to see some day include THE WEDDING PEOPLE, BUNNY, and THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS.

Eve Gleichman - Scout

Eve Gleichman has been scouting adult fiction and nonfiction for Liz Gately Book Scouting in our NYC office since 2015, tracking manuscripts from submission to publishing deal. They are always ready to champion great literary fiction, and have a particular fondness for knockout story collections. Having published two novels about millennials navigating modern life, they are especially interested in realist fiction about young people.

Favourite adaptations include Certain Women (adapted from Maile Meloy’s collection BOTH WAYS IS THE ONLY WAY I WANT IT), and Carol.

Andriana Taratsas - Assistant Scout

Andriana Taratsas joined the New York office in 2024 after graduating from the Columbia Publishing Course at Oxford and Carleton College, where she wrote her senior thesis on adaptation theory using the 2019 series Dickinson. She scouts for film and foreign clients and contributes to the weekly US Publishing Report. In both her personal and professional life, she reads speculative romance, suspense, and upmarket fiction, preferably of the funny variety.

Her all-time favorite book-film duo is Arrival and the gorgeous Ted Chiang novella that it’s based on.
